Event description

Description

On September 18, 2017, The Constitution Project (TCP) will host its Annual Constitutional Champions Gala in Washington, DC. The event honors two of our founders—individuals who have, in the face of adversity, stood up for the American ideals of liberty, justice, and the rule of law and fought to defend our nation’s Constitution and the rights it guarantees. This year, in addition to celebrating the 10th Annual Constitution Champions Gala, we are also celebrating TCP’s 20th anniversary.

The Honorable Mickey Edwards
Aspen Institute
Founder, The Constitution Project

Mickey Edwards was a member of Congress for 16 years, serving on the House Budget and Appropriations Committees, as ranking member of the Foreign Operations subcommittee, and as chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee. After leaving Congress he taught for eleven years at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where students chose him to receive the award given annually to the school’s outstanding professor, and then for two years at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs before he was asked to return to Washington as a vice president of the Aspen Institute, where he directs a bipartisan fellowship program for elected officials.

Edwards has been a newspaper columnist for the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, and the Los Angeles Times, broadcast a regular weekly commentary on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” and has had articles published in journals as diverse as The Atlantic, The Public Interest, Daedalus, The Nation, and Playboy. He is the author of several books on politics and public affairs, the most recent published by Oxford University Press and Yale University Press, and has directed task forces for the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations and served on others for the American Society of International Law and the American Bar Association.
