Event description
Join KUOW at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute on Tuesday, October 29 for the latest event in our That’s Debatable series.

About this Event

On any given night there are more than 12,000 people experiencing homelessness in King County. The homelessness crisis is a complicated issue that evokes strong emotions from people across the region. There are a wide range of opinions on how to best tackle the issue, how much money should be spent and whether public dollars are being spent wisely.

Everyone is impacted by the homelessness crisis in some way. Some argue that it’s killing our city – bringing us into a state of decline. Others argue that homelessness is merely a symptom of much larger problem.

Join KUOW at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute on Tuesday, October 29 for the latest event in our That’s Debatable series. At this Oxford-style debate, a panel of smart Seattleites will square off on the proposition, “The Homelessness Crisis is Killing Seattle.”

We'll start with an audience vote. Both sides will give their arguments and then you, the audience, will vote again. The team that convinces more people to join their side wins. Will you change your mind?

ARGUING YES

Mellina White – digital marketing professional and author, The Seattle Conservative blog

The debate will be moderated by KUOW’s Ross Reynolds, with an introduction from KUOW reporter Kate Walter, who covers homelessness in our region. The debate will be followed by a Q&A with the panel. Click here to submit a question.
