Event description

Description

During the week of Thanksgiving, Bowery Mission volunteers will prepare and serve more than 10,000 meals for men, women, and children in all five boroughs of New York City. On Thanksgiving Day, volunteers will serve guests in our century-old chapel, decorated for the occasion, where each guest will receive a Thanksgiving turkey meal, a new coat and a blessing bag of hygiene items.

This is our busiest week of the year, and we want as many people as possible to have an opportunity to serve. We also do not want to overwhelm our meals guests with too many people. Please help us to make room for everyone by doing the following:

  1. Sign up for only one volunteer opportunity during Thanksgiving week. (Unfortunately, multiple registrations by one individual will be cancelled.)
  2. Registration is for individuals only. If you are coming with others, make sure each and every person in your group is signed up individually. During Thanksgiving week, we are not able to accept single reservations for an entire group.
  3. If you find that you cannot participate on the date/time for which you signed up, please edit your registration and/or send an email to givethanks@bowery.org. This way, someone else may use your spot. You will not be able to transfer your registration to another date/time.
  4. You can keep checking the website to see if spots have opened up to find another spot to reserve if you have cancelled.

Thank you for your cooperation, which makes it possible for as many people as possible to serve.

FAQs

How many serving slots may I sign up for?
Each volunteer can sign up for only one timeslot (2 hours each), so that we can accommodate as many volunteers as possible. If you registered for more than one timeslot, you will be unregistered from the second reservation you made.

Is there an age minimum to volunteer?
You must be 14 years of age to serve a meal. If you are between the ages of 14-18, you may only serve if your parent or legal guardian is serving with you. Each person must register individually.

What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at the beginning of the time listed on your registration confirmation. This will give you time to check in and receive a briefing.

Where do I go to volunteer?
Most meals will be served at 227 Bowery, but not all. Please review the registration page: certain volunteer opportunities will take place at our Avenue D location or in a nearby area for Outreach. If you signed up for an outreach, you will meet at 227 Bowery at the listed time and be transported to the outreach location and back.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Registration is NON-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you may NOT pass your registration to someone else. Please cancel your registration by updating your Eventbrite account (if you have one) or send an email to givethanks@bowery.org with your name, date and time you need to cancel.

Can I update my registration information?
Yes, if you have an Eventbrite account, you may edit your information.

Do I have to bring my confirmation ticket to the event?
Yes, you must bring your ticket either printed or on your smartphone.

How do I contact you with any questions?
Email givethanks@bowery.org with any questions.
