The Texas Southern University student chapter of American Marketing Association (AMA) and TSUNAA COLABS Alumni Chapter cordially invite you to attend Text & Textile, an evening of literature-inspired wearable art. All tickets grant public access to an enriching two-day academic and fashion extravaganza. On April 20-21st, the Department of English will welcome presenters from as far away as Australia, India, and Serbia to discuss correlations between the literary, media, and fashion arts. Then, on the evening of April 21st, as a fitting culmination of the academic symposium, the 2023 LIT Fashion show will highlight the rich history of the university's Fashion and Textile Design Department.
For over five decades, Texas Southern University has produced some of the most talented fashion designers and industry professionals. Text & Textile will honor our institution’s rich history, celebrating former TSU professors and alumni who shaped the program and showcasing the original garments and accessories of both professional and student creatives.
This year, AMA has partnered with TSU alumni, award-winning designer Toni Whitaker, and faculty across the disciplines to highlight haute couture designer and Project Runway Finalist Chasity Sereal. Shirlette Thompson, Linda Morgan Soders, and Onyx Noir are among the other dynamic featured artists who will grace the runway.
The festivities take place on Friday, April 21, starting at 6:30 pm with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Short theatrical and poetry presentations follow by the TSU Theatre Dept. and members of the award-winning TSU Debate Team. The fashion show begins at 7:30 pm, featuring literature-inspired student fashion designers; then, the professional designers will illuminate the runway with their original pieces. The evening culminates with a special presentation, honoring faculty and trendsetters who significant contributions have forged the revolutionary direction Texas Southern COLABS will take in the next quarter of the 21st century.
