The need for plug and play-the ability to easily make a medical device interconnected withother devices- has attracted great attention. Interoperable devices with the ability to share info across systems and platforms can: Reduce Errors, Reduce Adverse Events, and Encourage Innovation. The goal for this discussion is to shed light on what devices are affected, how the FDA views them and what steps the manufacturer should take to safely and effectively exchange/use the information that has been exchanges.
