Windows 8 Hackathon


Join us for the 2nd Annual Microsoft Hackathon at Texas A&M! Bring your laptop, install the tools, and let's code some awesome apps! 

Raffle prizes every hour! 

Bring your friends and join us for a night of fun. We will have on-site developers ready to answer all of your questions. Don't worry, we will also make sure you have enough snacks and drinks ALL NIGHT LONG! Did we mention? Dinner, Breakfast, & Lunch? 

You are not required to stay all night, but it is highly encouraged!

We will also have a room set up with an Xbox console for your entertainment! Halo 4, Dance Central 3, Forza 4, Kinect Sports, and more!

Every student who publishes their app to the marketplace will automatically recieve $100 per app! Max of 5 apps per student!

*Will not accept RSS apps

Prizes for top three apps are as follows. 
1st: $300

2nd: $200

3rd: $100


Raffle Grand Prize: 

A 32GB Surface RT!

Everyone who meets the following requirements will be entered into the raffle.

1) Registers for the hackathon

2) Completes an app

3) Is present when app winners are announced

                           You'll be taught everything you need to know to get started while eating dinner and learning fromt, Chris Weldon & Mark Rosenberg, at developing apps!



                          That's right, we're staying up ALL NIGHT! Join a group, make a group, or code on your own! We will have developers all night ready to help you with any problems you might have. 

2:30pm-4:00pm: App Presentations & Winners Announced

                          Think you app has what it takes? Our on-site developers will be awarding prizes to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place apps!

Developer Bios:

Chris Weldon


Chris is a Senior Consultant at Improving Enterprises working out of College Station, TX, home of Texas A&M University. He's been a passionate dev/ops engineer who works on many different technology stacks and platforms, especially ASP.NET and SharePoint. Through his enthusiasm for agile software development and software as a craft, Chris is regularly engaged with the community to promote best practices such as TDD/BDD, pair programming, and CI/CD by speaking at user groups all over the state of Texas, TechFests, and other conferences. Chris is also a part of the coordinating team for AgileDotNet, a conference dedicated to blending agile principles and .Net software development and Microsoft tools.

Chris has also been a long-time developer of PHP and heavily involved in that community. As the co-organizer of the B/CS PHP Users Group, Chris helps to bridge best practices that come out of the .Net community with the PHP community. His most recent initiatives include re-promoting PHP on IIS and Windows Azure.

Mark Rosenberg

Mark is a Microsoft MVP (Most Vaulable Professional) from Austin, TX. He has helped run several developer workshops such as Dev Unleased. His experience makes him one of the top developers on our list! 

Ross Morel


Ross is a young entrepreneur with a background in software consulting, marketing strategy and business development. After graduating A&M, he successfully boot-strapped a high-growth technology service company before merging in 2011. 

Ross now serves as the chief executive of FrogSlayer where he guides the company's vision and strategy. Ross also oversees the financial, marketing and business development functions at FrogSlayer.

In addition, Ross is heavily involved mentoring young entrepreneurs and early-stage startups. He's an advocate of "learning by doing", believes that execution is everything and that people matter most.


Cole Jones


Cole is a Texas A&M alum and is a developer in Sever & Tools Business at Microsoft.  


Heather Cheney


Heather is a software consultant at Improving Enterprises in College Station, TX. She graduated from Texas A&M with a Computer Engineering degree, and was a member of the Fighting' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets. Whoop!  


Long Mai


Long loves to improve, learn, and mentor on agile values, OOA&D, and .NET architecture. His comfort language is C#, but as a software consultant and contributor at Improving Enterprises, he is pragmatic and focuses on business values for improving his clients.
