Event description

Description

COOS BAY, OR | On Friday, February 2, 2018 the South Coast Oregon Employer Council will host Terminations: When Employees Pass Their Expiration Date”, a workshop presented by Jennifer Bouman-Steagall a Dynamic Storyteller & Pacific Northwest Defense Attorney. Jennifer is engaging, dynamic, compelling, entertaining, and genuinely passionate about her work. She also happens to be a highly skilled management-side employment litigation attorney with over 14 years of experience representing Oregon and Washington employers.

Have you ever noticed that poor performing employees linger in the workplace far too long? Much like leftovers languishing in our fridge until we have no choice but to finally throw them out? Why do we let poor performers stay so long? Terminations can be difficult, and the fear of litigation is certainly a strong motivator to push issues to the back of the fridge and forget about them. Unfortunately, those issues will always resurface and demand your attention. This informative and engaging program will provide you with the tools and confidence you need to coach and finally let go of poor performers. We will explore the common reasons why managers allow poor performers to stay too long, when to coach, discipline and terminate employees, and what your legal obligations are when terminating employees. We will also develop a termination checklist to help transitions go more smoothly, and strategies for how to handle the difficult conversations with respect and dignity.

Who should attend this seminar? This workshop is designed for small business owners, human resources managers and specialists, office managers, managers and supervisors who are responsible for the termination decisions and processes.

Registration: The seminar will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the South Coast Education Service District (ESD) Large Conference Room, 1350 Teakwood, Coos Bay. Check-in starts at 7:45 a.m. and the seminar presentation runs from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Seminar registration is open to the public—seminar registration fee is $69 per person. The non-refundable fee includes a continental breakfast and seminar materials.
