About this event
"Tequio" /'tekjo/ is the Zapotec peoples' concept of community joining together to accomplish a goal for the betterment of all. Chef Luis Martinez was born in Santa Catarina Loxicha, Oaxaca, Mexico in a small Zapotec pueblo. Now based in Western NC, Martinez merges his passion for cooking and social justice through pop-up culinary events and community-building work. As the founder of Tequio Foods, a company dedicated to supporting indigenous communities by paying farmers directly for heirloom corn and beans, Martinez is dedicated to uplifting indigenous communities and celebrating his roots.
This special four-course meal (plus snacks and surprises) features lamb barbacoa and consomme along with Luis' innovative creations that pair ingredients straight from the farm with his extensive knowledge of Oaxacan cuisine and technique.
