Description

Temu Kopi 2017 is a two-day forum that will bring together representatives from across the Indonesian coffee value chain for informative presentations, panel discussions and simulations exploring the sector’s successes, challenges, and opportunities.

This fifth annual Temu Kopi Indonesian coffee forum is sponsored by Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and Fair Trade (FT).

The forum presents a valuable opportunity for key players in the Indonesian coffee value chain, from tree to cup — including producers, exporters, importers, buyers and roasters — to connect with representatives of the public and non-profit sectors to build mutually beneficial business relationships. There will be ample opportunity for networking with fellow conference attendees.

A highlight of Temu Kopi 2017 will be cupping sessions where attendees can sample coffee from producers in Indonesia’s key coffee-growing regions, including Gayo, Lintong, Java, Flores, Bali and Toraja. The other thing is price distribution simulation, where participants can learn how coffee price distribution divided from farmers to roaster.

Forum attendees will have the opportunity prior to the conference to visit farmers to witness first-hand what goes into making Indonesia’s distinctive coffee varieties, including observing farming methods, coffee processing, the function of the regional supply chain, coffee tasting, and the local culture related to coffee production.

Coffee farming is a key source of income for many small-scale Indonesian farmers. Today, more than 90 percent of Indonesia’s coffee is produced by poor rural farming communities, and it is an important means of lifting farming families out of poverty, which is the goal of LWR’s work.
