Title of Lecture: Developing a Differential Diagnosis and Interesting Case Review
Lecture Objectives: Upon completion of this lecture participants should have an understanding of the following: • how to detect, identify and describe lesions and abnormalities of the head and neck • how to develop a reasonable differential diagnosis for lesions identified based on the clinical and/or radiographic presentation • review of some common diseases and lesions of the head and neck region
Gretchen S. Folk, DDS, MS
Gretchen Folk is a oral and maxillofacial pathologist at Scripps Oral Pathology Service, San Diego, California and holds an adjunct faculty position at Loma Linda University. She received her D.D.S. degree from University of Washington. Following graduation she joined the Navy and completed a tour in Keflavik, Iceland as a general dentist. In 2004, Dr. Folk completed residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the Naval Dental School in Bethesda, MD and Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Upon graduation, she also received a MS degree in Oral Biology from George Washington University. In 2004, Gretchen joined the pathology staff at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, where she also served as Department Head of Anatomic Pathology. She has contributed to the head and neck pathology, ENT and oral surgery literature. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
