Event description

Description

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, SCC will host a screening of the documentary “Dolores.” It is the amazing story of Dolores Huerta, one of the most important, yet least known, civil rights leaders in U.S. history. She co-founded the first farmworker unions with César Chávez, yet her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring community advocates: Pita Juarez, an award-winning multimedia journalist, José Patiño, Campaigns Director with Aliento, a community healing arts organization, and author Stella Pope Duarte, whose latest book profiles civil rights leader Raúl Yzaguirre.

The panel will be moderated by SCC Inclusiveness Council co-chair Jonathan Higuera. SCC President Chris Haines will offer welcoming remarks and SCC Film Faculty member Roberto Gudino will introduce the documentary.

Reception 5:30 p.m. | Screening 6:00 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. Food and light refreshments will be provided.

*By RSVPing for this event you agree to receive email communications from Maricopa County Community College District, Roberto Gudino, and/or those acting within its authority.
