TellAfrica Int'l Art & Craft Festival (TIAF) 2018 - With The Ooni of Ife
Event Information
Description
There is a serious dearth of information across the black population all over
the world; an apparent inability of the descendants of Africans especially in
this 21st century to identify themselves as a part of their very interesting
cultural heritage.
Having realised this, His imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan
Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Arole Oduduwa (The Projenitor of the
African Race) came up with the idea of TellAfrica.
TellAfrica is a lifestyle; moral, culture & heritage and a travel blog dedicated
to telling African stories to Africans all over the world as well as people of
other races. H.I.M, Ooni Oguwusi is poised to project Black
civilisation/globalisation into world consciousness; history has it that
civilisation emanated from Africa.
TellAfrica aims to promote and propagate the African written and unwritten
culture both at home and in the Diaspora using tool such as; information,
entertainment, arts and crafts. TellAfrica is a wake-up call for Africans all over
the world to the realisation of who we truly are and not what we think or other
races think we are.
African is a big, strong, reliable and intellectually sound nation.
Africa and Africans should be celebrated; TellAfrica is the right stop and
machinery for the purpose!
INTERNATIONAL ART & CRAFT FESTIVAL
Borne out of the desire to TellAfrica, TIAF brings to our finger tip the many
hidden and forgotten history of Africans with respect to their love for art &
craft. African art and craft come in different themes which are significant to
African culture. These themes speak volume of our identity and reveal the
story behind most of its beautiful art.
Most of African art comes with no explanatory guide and it takes a native or a
discerning spirit to know what each piece symbolises. Our knowledge of the
story behind any piece of African artwork will give a deeper appreciation of the
cultural heritage. TIAF will give you guide to all our crafts.
Africans give credence to their ancestors and as such they make image of them
in which they honour. These images come in form of bronze, wooden or
metallic sculptures or mask. All which are greatly revered in African culture.
Many of such graven images are used in ceremonies generally depicting
deities, spirits of ancestors, mythological beings, good and or evil spirits,
masquerades, the dead, animal spirits, and other beings believed to have
power.
Therefore, TIAF will do the stories of African art and craft in a dignified
manner. Showcasing the unique nature of each artefact and explaining it
represents at the festival. TIAF shall be delighted to welcome arts and craft
from the fifty-four countries in Africa as well as artworks from other
continents, should there be such interest.
At TIAF, we have background knowledge of what these crafts means to their
originators. We are also aware that most of the original crafts were stolen
treasures from Africa during the colonial era. The stolen crafts generate
income to their foreign safe-keepers at the expense of their true owners. Taking
or stealing them at that point in time means separating the people from their
gods and belief which contravene their right to religious worship and
association.
Africans are still pained!!!
The debate as to whether or not to return those artefacts to their original owners
remains contentious.
In the light of this development, H.I.M Ooni Oguwusi is of the opinion that, for
peace and unity to reign among nations of the world, there must be forgiveness
and restitution. It may be difficult for those items to be returned to their original
owners but Africans owe those who stole from them forgiveness. Severing
Africans from there from their property caused them hardship during the
period. No amount of sorry could heal such, but we must forge ahead to
permanently forgive in order to maintain world peace, love and unity.
In furtherance to forgiveness and towards restitution between nations of the
world, and at the same time promoting African’s cultural-heritage and
ingenuity, H.I.M Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi is commencing a promotion of
these art and craft. Most of these arts are now being produced locally in Ile-Ife
and neighbouring communities in large quantities. These artefacts which are
characterised as ostentatious goods are now used as interior home decorations
across the globe.
Therefore, these art and craft will soon hit the international market again; this
time around, they shall be sold on auctions at the TELLAFRICA
INTERNATIONAL ART&CRAFT FESTIVAL and their proceeds shall go to
charitable causes in the colonies, especially Africa where the masses are
suffering and need all the support they can get at this point in time.
What more restitution is greater than this?
TIAF will also showcase African culture in dance, drama and all other forms of
arts at its opening ceremony where our targeted audience are: Africans,
Asians, Australians, and Europeans, North & South Americans as well as the
not-permanent residents of the Antarctica. We are inviting the world to come
see and celebrate the positives of the African nation.
The House of Oduduwa Foundation is an on-going commitment of relentless
service to humanity. The foundation being a vocal advocate for the less
privileged. Driven by turning impossibilities into possibilities. With charitable

services to the less privileged in Nigeria through various partnerships. This
year we have a commitment to work with TellAfrica in the characterized
manner to reach other African countries as well as our home-country, Nigeria.
