Course Description

In this course offered by Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and Research Institute (an Expanded Learning Provider), you will learn ways to make learning more personal and experiential for your students using the resources of the museum to teach reasoning, problem solving and communication. You will develop two culminating projects. The first project focuses on using the story of an artifact to teach and the second focuses on the many learning opportunities offered by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and its collection of artifacts.

Note that this is a hybridized, project-driven course with a blend of conventional classroom hours, wiki submission and discussion, and project expectations beyond usual out-of-class work.

Highlights

  • Practice inductive thinking, brain-based learning, progressive education, and project-based learning
  • Learn about new research on human motivation and learning
  • Become familiar with the museum's boats, artifacts, images and work spaces
  • Access LCMM collections and staff as you work on your projects
  • Create your own Personalized Learning Plan
  • See a shipwreck as a nautical archaeologist would through the lens of a Remotely Operated Vehicle
  • Explore all that LCMM has to offer as an Expanded Learning Provider
