The Collision of Formulary Apportionment, Alternative Apportionment and Transfer Pricing:

This session will focus on recent nationwide developments on challenges involving attribution of taxable income and expenses and the defenses being offered by taxpayers including the variety of ways states are challenging taxpayers doing business in more than one taxable jurisdiction.


State-Level Gross Receipts Taxes: More to Come?:

With the rise of states considering adoption of gross receipts taxes, this session will explore why multistate businesses should understand how these taxes work and the pitfalls and planning opportunities available when doing business with residents of gross receipts tax states or conducting business in such states.


Property Tax Disputes – Best Practices:

This session will explore the tricks of the trade for dealing with property tax disputes including settlement and resolution tactics.

Canadian Sales Tax Hot Topics:

During this session, we will take a look at several of the current and emerging commodity tax issues faced by organizations doing business in Canada. Selected topics relate directly to amendments to provincial and federal legislation as well as changes in government administrative practice. The overall focus will be on issues and challenges facing US organizations conducting business in Canada.


Jurisdictions Overreaching: A survey of Recent Sales & Use Decisions:

This session will focus on the limits on states and municipalities that seek to impose sales and use taxes on activities and transactions that occur beyond their borders, including a discussion of Hertz v. City of Chicago and Florida Department of Revenue v. American Business USA Corp.


California’s Deparment of Taxation & Fee Administration and Office of Tax Appeals: What Now?

This session will explore the new roles of the State Board of Equalization, the Department of Taxation & Fee Administration and the Office of Tax Appeals, and the Office of Tax Appeals, including the breadth and timing of the changes and current regulatory efforts. These changes will have major implications for all taxpayers doing business in California.


Sharing is Caring: The Implications of Increased Information Sharing by Revenue Authorities:

This panel will discuss the U.S. federal, state and international tax considerations related to increased information sharing among revenue authorities, including the importance of understanding the information being reported, responses to third-party summonses, and the practical consequences for taxpayers resulting from coordination between revenue authorities.


This activity has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of California for up to 5.25 hours; and the Silicon Valley Chapter of Tax Executives Institute, Inc. certifies that this activity conforms to the standards for approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of California governing minimum continuing legal education.  This organization adheres to the regulations and requirements prescribed in the Accountancy Act of the State Board of Accountancy.  Attending this program should permit an individual to claim up to 6.0 hours of California CPA continuing education credit. Not registered with the NASBA.

Tax Executives Institute, Inc. is the preeminent association of in-house tax professionals worldwide.
