Event description

The Greater Tehachapi Valley (GTV) CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), is celebrating our 15th Anniversary in Tehachapi! We have trained over 1,000 residents, providing confidence, training people to help people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number.

The purpose of this training is to provide individuals with the basic skills that they will need to respond to their own and/or community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available.

By working together, CERT members can assist in saving lives and protecting property using the basic techniques in this course. The target audience for this course is individuals who desire the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and respond to a disaster.”

The CERT Basic Training curriculum does not include basic first aid.

There are many teams to join throughout Tehachapi, and a few people take the training just for themselves and their family. CERT students are under no obligation whatsoever to join a team.

CERT Training is free, over 7 consecutive Mondays, with material provided by FEMA. This is the ONLY class offered in Tehachapi until the Spring. If you have to miss a class, you can make it up at Spring Training.

Class size is limited to 30 students. We ask that students who sign up be certain they can commit to attend.

Though the training is free, donations are always welcome to offset the cost of putting on the classes.

Sign up at or call/text GTV Class Manager Jeannie Taylor at 805-603-7424 or Sally Thoun, GTV CERT Class Clerk and Instructor at (310) 463-4003.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The class was designed for adults 18 years of age and older but teenage students are encouraged to attend, preferably with their parents. We do, however, allow teenage students without their parents as long as they have a letter of permission from their parents. These students will be treated as adults and are expected to participate fully in all class activities.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Please advise if you will need a gatepass. Parking available at the Church.

What can I bring into the event?

Yourself, an open mind to learn to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
