Saturday Oct 14, 8:30 am - 6:00pm

AND Sunday Oct 15, 9:00am - 5:00pm

2 days, 17 hours, 150 teens generating thousands of ideas for tech solutions to civic problems!

Like all our events, the TeenTechSF Civic Hackathon is free, beginner-friendly, and open to all Bay Area teens. New hackers are encouraged to participate. We'll have a special award category for first-time hackers! Mentors will be available to help students turn their ideas into reality using the cool, digital resources available at The Mix for coding projects, app creation, website building, video editing, sound recording, access to an interactive wall for collaborating and a 3-D printer for prototyping! The best civic hacks from the Bay Area will win bragging rights, some great swag, and the chance to participate in the TeenTech Civic Hackathon World Pitch on December 9th with teams from as far away as Kenya & China!

Rules and Guidelines:

This year's civic hackathon will focus specifically on the opportunity to use technology to change the world! Specific prompts provided on the day of the hackathon.

Projects can take any form: coding project, app, website, video, 3-D printer, Arduino, Makey Makey, Little Bits or other prototypes...

Project must be original and new. Previously developed projects cannot be submitted.

Hackathon teams are made up of 2-5 students who must be 13-18 yrs old. Each student must register individually. We'll record teams on the day of the event. Don't have a partner yet? No problem – we'll help you find one!

Don't worry about fueling up for the hackathon: lunch and afternoon snack will be provided both days! Event is free, but if you are able, please make a $5 or more donation to cover food and other event costs.

If you have special needs, we will have a variety of food options available, but you should be prepared to bring your own snack just in case. Everyone should bring their water bottle to reduce waste from beverage containers and save the planet!

If you don't have access to a laptop, let us know and we will provide at least one per team. If you do have access to a laptop, please bring it so that we can make sure every team has at least one.

IMPORTANT: All students must fill out THIS FORM to use the digital resources at The Mix! If you don't have a library card#, enter "0" and you can get a free library card when you arrive -- even if you do not live in San Francisco.

DISCLAIMER: TeenTechSF will be livestreaming and recording this event and reserves the right to use all videos/photos from the event. If you or your parents do not wish to be recorded, please let TeenTechSF know when you arrive and avoid getting on camera.

In 2014, TeenTechSF went global doubling participation with the inaugural TeenTech GLOBAL Youth Summit livestreaming from Plug and Play Tech Center, birthplace of PayPal and Dropbox. In 2015, we organized our first ever TeenTechSF GLOBAL Youth Summit & World Pitch at Salesforce HQ and in 2016, TeenTechSF included chapters & global partners in Seattle, New York, Paris, Tunis, Nairobi, and Shanghai.
