Event description

Description

Having a parent in the military comes with its own unique challenges that sometimes can be overwhelming for teens. The impact of deployments or long hours, where there is only one parent left at home, can leave a teen feeling less supported and isolated at times.

Usually, teens turn to their friends for support, but of course, military teens are constantly moving every 2 to 3 years that causes stress for the whole family, but even more so for a teenager. Having to start over every few years with a new school and new friends can be a daunting challenge for teenagers. Having a group of friends that you can hang out with and talk to is a cornerstone of a teenager’s life, but often times military teens struggle to make those connections. Their struggles are different and more complex than civilian teenagers, and so they find themselves feeling that they have no friends that really understand all that they are going through.

If you are a teen that needs a friend to talk to that understands what it’s like to be a “military brat”, then join us at The Big Red Barn Retreat on January 18th, 10:30AM-2:30PM, as we talk, laugh, create, and connect military teens with military teens. Nestled on 75 wooded-acres in Blythewood, the Big Red Barn Retreat offers the perfect setting for teens to explore their unique life challenges together and help them emotionally digest all that they are feeling with other teens. Sometimes knowing you are not alone can make a world of difference
