Event description

Description

We are happy to have offered opportunities throughout the year for teens to earn valuable community service experience at Taylor County Public Library. That's why we're so excited about our new group, Teen C.I.A., or Teen Community Involvement Alliance. This group is designed to enhance involvement amongst our teens not only within our library, but throughout the community as well. Together, we will brainstorm and perform community service projects each month.

Here's what's coming up:

Friday, January 11 @ 1:30 PM:

We will be organizing and decorating egoodie bags while also writing short notes of appreciation! These will then be distributed to local law enforcement the following week as part of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day or L.E.A.D.

On Friday, January 25 @ 1:30 PM: (Eligible for the Caring is Sharing Badge)

Wendy Strode from the Kentucky School of the Blind will be here to educate us on the usage of braille and how it is taught. She will then assist us in making Experience Books for our library. Experience books are created by fusing storytelling and tangible textures relating to the object you are writing about. For example: if a story talks about how grass feels, include a bag of actual grass for the visually impared to hold while being told the story. These books are designed for visually impaired individuals to better correlate language with touch.
