TEDx Community Experience #1: Hosted by TEDxMidAtlantic and TEDxBaltimore
You already know that TED is all about ideas worth spreading. Towards that end, since the very first TEDxMidAtlantic event in 2009, we've been asking ourselves:
- How can we connect the amazing TEDx audience together better?
- How can we keep the conversation going after the events?
- How can we drive people towards specific calls to action?
- How can we leverage the community to make future TEDx events better and more diverse?
In response, we've decided to try something we're calling TEDx Community Experience, which aims to highlight amazing people, places, and ideas while simultaneously providing an opportunity for members of the local TEDx communities to interact and discover shared interests.
TEDx Community Experience #1 will be held January 30th, 2011 at the Jordan Faye Contemporary in Baltimore, Maryland and will feature the art of Debra Rubino and Jenee Mateer. Some previous TEDx speakers will be in attendance, and we've got some other surprises as well!
The Jordan Faye Contemporary is located in the former South branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library building, now converted into an art gallery in Baltimore's historic Federal Hill neighborhood. Valet parking and light fare will be provided.
Who should come? Previous and future attendees of ALL TED and TEDx events (TEDxMidAtlantic, TEDxOilSpill, TEDxBaltimore, TEDxPotomac, TEDxEast, TEDxYSE, TEDxWDC, TEDxPennQuarter, as well as TED, TED Women, and TED Global) are strongly encouraged to attend. We also encourage you to bring friends who should get involved in the TED community.
We also want your feedback. A new TEDxMidAtlantic 2011 event is in the works. We also plan the debut of TEDxBaltimore this spring. We want to know: what do you think the community needs now? What ideas should we help spread?
TEDx Community Experience is brought to you by community volunteers but is also enhanced by support from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, Open Society Institute Baltimore, Enoch Pratt Free Library, TEDCO and the Y of Central Maryland. (Partnership opportunities are available.)
We hope to see you on January 30th to kick off another amazing year of ideas worth spreading in the MidAtlantic region!
