What is happening?

  • Hilla Ovil Brenner, Managing Director at Techstars Tel Aviv
  • David Brown, CEO & Co-Founder of Techstars will welcome the class, as well as Gagan Bhatia, General Manager EMEA at Techstars.
  • Izhar Shay, Israel Minister of Science and Technology, will greet the founders and tell us more about the current state of the Israeli startup ecosystem, and why it matters more than ever to support entrepreneurs now.
  • Chemi Peres, Managing General Partner & Co-Founder, Pitango VC Chairman, the Peres Center for Peace & Innovation, will give an inspiring talk and present the place and our ecosystem.
  • Eyal Waldman, Former CEO & President of Mellanox, acquired by NVIDIA for 8 Billion dollars , will be interviewed by Hilla Ovil Brenner, Managing Director of Techstars Tel Aviv, they will talk about his journey and what makes great entrepreneurs these days.

David Brown, CEO & Co-Founder Techstars

David is the co-founder and CEO of Techstars, headquartered in Boulder, CO, USA David has a 30-year career building and growing companies and writes on all aspects of entrepreneurship from the vantage point of a founder, an investor, and the CEO of Techstars. We are so grateful to have David with us to share his vision for the future and to share with us the core values of Techstars.

Gagan Bhatia, General Manager EMEA for Techstars

Prior to that he built Diaspora, an early-stage fund and an accelerator program to help overseas founders scale in Europe. He was an early General Manager of Uber in the APAC region and helped build Uber in India from ground up into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. He then led a global business unit at Uber. Prior to Uber, he was a management consultant in London

Izhar Shay, Minister of Science and Technology

Izhar Shay was elected as a member in the Israeli 21st Parliament (Knesset). Prior to joining the Israeli Parliament, Shay was a high-tech entrepreneur, CEO of start-up companies, member of boards of directors, mentor for entrepreneurs and a social activist. Izhar Shay accumulated 30 years of experience within the Israeli high-tech as an engineer, a manager, an entrepreneur and a venture capital investor.

Izhar Shay was previously a Managing General Partner with Canaan Partners Israel; he was a board member with promising start-up companies, some of which reached significant ‘exit’ events. Prior to joining Canaan Partners, Izhar was Chairman and CEO of V-Secure Technologies, and CEO and co-founder of Business Layers. Both companies reached a successful exit under Izhar’s management. Izhar was the Chairman of Tzahala, a volunteer based non-for-profit organization which focuses on giving Israeli youngsters an equal opportunity to excel and to realize their personal potential as they turn into young adults. Izhar also volunteered with KamaTech, a non-for-profit organization which provides high-tech employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the Haredi community in Israel.

Chemi Peres, Chairman of the Board of Directors The Peres Center for Peace and Innovation and Co-Founder & Managing General Partner Pitango Venture Capital

Mr. Peres is Co-Founder and Managing General Partner of Pitango Venture Capital, Israel's leading venture capital fund. With over $2.3 billion in committed capital, Pitango has invested in some 230 high-growth technology companies. Chemi serves on the boards of numerous Pitango portfolio companies such as Via Transportation, Taboola and more. He is a board member at Teva Pharmaceuticals, the world’s leading generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, publicly traded on the NYSE. He serves as a member of the GEOX Committee for Ethics & Sustainability.

Chemi is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, founded in 1996 by his late father, Israel’s 9th President Shimon Peres. The Peres Center is Israel’s leading non-profit NGO focused on developing and implementing unique and cutting-edge peace-building programs in innovation, peace education, medicine, business, and the environment. Chemi is also an active board member for several other non-profit organizations and social impact investment platforms, such as Social Finance Israel.

Eyal Waldman, Former CEO & President at Mellanox acquired by NVIDIA

Eyal Waldman is a co-founder of Mellanox, and has served as president and chief executive officer and as a member of the board of directors since March 1999. From March 1999 until June 2013, Mr. Waldman served as the chairman of the board of directors. From March 1993 to February 1999, Mr. Waldman served as vice president of engineering and was a co-founder of Galileo Technology, Ltd., a semiconductor company, which was acquired by Marvell Technology Group, Ltd. in January 2001. From August 1989 to March 1993, Mr. Waldman held a number of design and architecture related positions at Intel Corporation, a manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Mr. Waldman also serves and previously served on the board of directors of a number of private companies. Mr. Waldman holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. In June 2016, Mr. Waldman was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Technion. Mr. Waldman is located in Israel.
