Event description
This event consists of two short lectures followed by a hands-on workshop.

About this Event

In the first lecture, our speakers will discuss the technology transfer process in the Toronto area, and how the business of commercializing research to improve healthcare is structured to expedite discoveries to patients through the medical marketplace.

The second lecture and the hands-on workshop will cover intellectual property basics; specifically, patent applications and the practical strategies for obtraining strong and valuable patents. All patent applications are not created equal, and the quality, strength and ultimate value of a patent application is highly dependent on the efforts made by both the inventor and the patent agent. This session will provide an overview of the patent system, followed by practical strategies for working with your patent agent to develop a quality patent application. The workshop also includes a hands-on exercise, which will enable participants develop familiarity with the patent search process as well as recognize issues surrounding invention and ownership.

Agenda:

5:00-5:20pm: Technology Transfer Process

5:20-6:00pm: Patent System Overview

6:00-6:15pm: Break and Networking Mixer (Light dinner will be served)

6:15-8:00pm: Patent Application Strategies & Prior Art Search Workshop

N.B. A live webcast will NOT be available for this session.
