Event description

Description

Dementia is a difficult condition to go through, both for caregivers and for those suffering from the disease. While not yet eliminating dementia, current technological advances are making living with dementia more manageable. From new sensors and robots to advanced living environments, join us to learn about the latest technology that is designed to help those living with dementia to be more independent and cope with the illness in a better way.

This program is taught by Fernando Montalvo, McKnight Doctoral Fellow and Human Factors & Cognitive Psychology PhD Student at the Technology and Aging Lab at the University of Central Florida. As a member of the Technology and Aging Lab (a Learning & Longevity Research Network Lab) for the past five years, his primary research interests include human-robot interaction in the context of loneliness in older adults, as well as exploring how loneliness affects social perception. Fernando also conducts other research, including meanings of loneliness and older adult-technology interaction. Fernando holds a B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in Anthropology from UCF, as well as a B.S. in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

This program is presented by the Winter Park Health Foundation.
