TechLondonAdvocates (TLA) Smart Cities: Unconference
Mon, April 24, 2017, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM BST
Join the Tech London Advocates (TLA) Smart Cities group for our first Smart Cities Unconference.
The Smart Cities Unconference 2017 is an official event of the TLA Smart Cities group. The TLA Smart Cities group are advocates for the design and delivery of user-focused Smart Cities which meet the diverse range of needs of those who live, work and socialise in London. For too long 'smart' cities have focused on technology solutions, rather than understanding the people that they serve.
Our primary focus of the Unconference will be to shape understanding on what smart cities are and how they can create, contribute and support social change for London's diverse communities. We want to better understand the actions we need to take to increase positive impact in our communities so that the promise of smart cities are delivered. Your ideas and actions will help us to set the goals for the TLA Smart Cities and the wider smart cities communities in London and internationally.
Why an Unconference?
Conferences are a great place for hearing from leaders in the field of smart cities, however they are organised in a way that is less participatory that doesn’t maximise collaboration and knowledge of the participants.
The TLA Smart Cities Unconference will be an open and safer space for us to exchange thoughts, experiences, ideas, and learn and discover together what a truly smart city is about. Our sessions will be participant driven, drawing on the interests and expertise of the attendees in a way that encourage dialog, creativity, and collaboration.
Our first unconference will be in the evening for a couple of hours. It is completely free to attend. We hope that this makes the event more inclusive and accessible, and want to hear feedback on how we can make these events even better.
Can I participate?
Whether you’re a newbie to the "smart cities" world or seasoned expert, your contribution to the discussion is essential. We encourage representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, civil society, the media, startups and most importantly, representatives of typically underrepresented communities (including, but not limited to: refugees, senior citizens, millenials and generation Y, and people with disabilities or special needs).
As well as a diverse range of organisations and user needs, we're looking for everyone from designers, to developers, product owners to policy makers to share their expertise and help become advocates for our more inclusive, user-focused smart London.
