Event description
Techfugees Cambridge Autumn Conference - Addressing digital needs of resettled refugees

About this Event

A free event, aimed at sharing knowledge and finding resources for tech projects.

Techfugees is an impact-driven global organisation aimed at building a sustainable ecosystem of “tech for refugee” solutions & supporting the inclusion of refugees and displaced people into the tech industry.

In this event we look at the largest group of resettled refugees in Cambridge, and consider what skills they have and need for getting their lives back on track after being forcibly displaced. Both English language learning and certificates required for work have a dimension of technology that we may be able to help improve.

This event is a partnership with Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign and Raspberry Pi Foundation, and will be held in the RPF offices on Hills Road. We thank them for their help with this.

The speakers for the event are:

Nina Szymor (Raspberry Pi Foundation) speaking about the code club being run at Raspberry Pi Foundation and how it is helping refugee children to learn programming.

Dan Ellis (Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign) speaking about the work of CRRC and some of the challenges facing resettled refugees at the moment.

Josephine Goube (CEO of Techfugees) speaking about the global Techfugees organisation, tech4refugees and the projects going on to help refugees access employment.

Fritjof Knier (Integreat) speaking about the open source Integreat app, and how it was able to scale up to serve refugee across all of Germany.

Julian Harty (Technology for Education specialist) speaking about teaching in refugee camps and low connectivity areas, Kiwix and the hardware he chooses to use.

Oscar Gillespie (Techfugees Cambridge) speaking about challenges we want to set to the Cambridge tech sector, specifically a project pitch for helping refugees overcome barriers to employment, and another for an evidence-based PTSD intervention using a mobile game.
