Event description

Description

Learn how to speak the language of computers! Using online resources that enable them to continue learning outside of the workshop, attendees will dive into the exciting world of computer coding.

Students will use a block-based application designed to make it simple for anyone to learn computer programming. Attendees will leave the workshop having created their own individual projects such as a game, video or calculator application.

For grades 3-7.

NOLA_CODE is a 501(c)(3) that uses technology to foster equality of opportunities in New Orleans. They work to reduce New Orlean's social inequalities through early access to the computer sciences. This workshop will be presented by Élan Jones. She believes that today's technology can be used to inspire creative thinking in young learners, and empower them to be successful high achievers in any path they choose. She has shared this passion with others in communities and classrooms as well as at conferences. Élan is the Student Outcomes Lead at Operation Spark. In her spare time she serves as Executive Director of and volunteers with NOLA_CODE.
