Description

Cyber security has been all over the news lately. WikiLeaks, Sony hackers and Yahoo's membership login breach have caught America's attention and reinforced the need for advancements in this field. Cyber security engineers are in a never-ending struggle to keep valuable data safe from the prying eyes of hackers everywhere.

Tech in Motion would like to invite you to the UCI Applied Innovation Center as we engage in a high-level discussion panel focused on cyber security and it's importance in every industry. The discussion will be led by some of Southern California's top cyber security minds.

MODERATOR

Bryan Cunningham | UCI Cyber Security Policy & Research Institute, Executive Director

Bryan is a cyber security and privacy lawyer who has advised clients on data and critical infrastructure protection and privacy programs. Most recently, Bryan served as Deputy Legal Adviser to then-National Security Adviser Coldoleezza Rice, where he helped develop the first National Strategy to secure Cyberspace. He also served six years in the Clinton Administration, as a senior CIA officer and federal prosecutor, and has advised police forces on security and privacy-related issues. He also is the pricipal author of legal and ethical chapters in information security textbooks. Cunningham has worked extensively with privacy and civil liberties organizations, including the America Civil Liberties Union, the Center for Democracy and Technology, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

PANELISTS

Daniel de Carvalho | Global Cash Card, Sr. Cyber Security Engineer

Daniel has been a member or the Global Cash Card Cyber Security Team for about 2 years. Prior to this, he worked in multiple capacities within the Cyber Security and the IT industry. Daniel has worked for many large corporations, ranging from healthcare and financial industries all the way to government agencies in Brazil. He is passionate about Cyber Security and enjoys contributing back to the community. Daniel is a member of OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) and enjoys conducting security code reviews and preforming security application penetration testing. Daniel enjoys developing offensive and defensive security tools which help in in his engagements. Daniel is an avid Splunker, and thoroughly enjoys to co-relate and enrich log entries, making them into meaningful and actionable security reports.

Jesse Salmon | Kareo, Inc., Security Architect

Jesse Salmon has been Kareo’s Security Architect for over 2 years managing security projects which helped Kareo become one of the first EHR software providers to get HITRUST certified. Jesse has worked with many large corporations where he focused on encouraging a balance between protection and the business by drawing inspiration from the Business Model of Information Security and he is a proud ISACA member. Prior to his civilian life, Jesse was part of the United States Marine Corps, where he built an information security management program and several defensive tools which were operational in the coalition military operations of the Iraq war. When he is not working, Jesse is also into the machine learning craze, where he is working on training classifiers that might someday run on home low-end routers protecting you and your family.

Aaron Guzman | Principal Security Consultant

Aaron Guzman is a Principal Security Consultant from the Los Angeles area with expertise in web application security, mobile application security, and embedded security. He has previously worked with established tech companies such as Belkin, Linksys, Symantec and Dell, breaking code and architecting infrastructures. With Aaron’s years of experience, he has given a number of presentations at various conferences ranging from DEFCON and OWASP’s Appsec USA, to developer code camps around the world. Furthermore, Aaron is a Chapter leader for the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Los Angeles, Cloud Security Alliance SoCal (CSA SoCal), and a Technical Editor for Packt Publishing. He has contributed to many IoT security guidance publications from CSA, OWASP, Prpl, and others. Aaron leads the OWASP Embedded Application Security project; providing practical guidance to address the most common firmware security bugs to the embedded and IoT community. Li Li | Data Scientist, Kaggle Master

Li Li is a Staff Data Scientist at Cylance, where he develops and applies novel machine learning algorithms to various computer security problems. He received his PhD in Physics from UC Irvine for "Development of Machine Learning Algorithms in Density Functional Theory". His recent research interests and publications include deep learning networks, kernel based methods, manifold learning and tensor methods. He is also active on several data science competitions. He currently holds a master title and ranks top 100 globally among all data scientists on Kaggle.
