About this event
It sucks to get that layoff notice. It feels unfair, hurtful, and all too personal. Don't isolate - join together in community. When we share our pain, fears, hopes, tips, and outrage we increase our sense of connection and move forward in our healing process.
When I was laid off from Microsoft in 2014 my friends stepped in and made sure I got out of the house, had some fun, and was able to grieve with them. It made a world of difference. Connections, relationships, and community are essential to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Stay connected and help each other through the hard times.
You: Women and non-binary folks in tech who are trans-inclusive.
Me: Ex-techie who came back to Microsoft after my layoff, was harassed, and left tech to help women in tech, women like I had been, build a new future for themselves.
Community Agreements:
- Honor pronouns, no bullying, no attacks on other people
- Maintain confidentiality around personal stories - what is learned here leaves here, what is said here stays here.
- Be candid - honest, kind, and useful.
- Stay curious.
- Be there for each other.
