Entrepreneurship extends beyond creating your own company. Join us for an evening of stories around intrapreneurship – entrepreneurship inside of an organization – accomplished by the talented women at Slack! Our panel of engineers will talk about how they approach innovation at this rapidly growing tech company.

Agenda:

  • 6:00 - 6:45 PM - Check-in / networking

  • 7:00 - 8:00 PM - Speakers

  • 8:00 - 9:00 PM - Social and networking

Speakers:

Tia Caldwell, Senior Engineering Manager

Tia leads the Monetization Team at Slack, whose mission is to help retail teams discover and seamlessly purchase the best Slack product for their organization. With her charismatic leadership, Tia manages a highly collaborative team with strong technical depth and creativity.

Over the past 13 years, she has led and managed engineering teams at Netflix and Microsoft, covering a multitude of high fidelity projects. Most recently, she serves as an active participant in /dev/color, a non-profit whose mission is to maximize the impact of Black software engineers. Adding even more to her already impressive resumé, you may also recognize her as the co-founder of Color Code, a scholarship fund dedicated to future leaders of color in technology.

Raquel Vélez, Platform Engineering Manager

Internationally educated and a speaker of five different languages, Raquel doesn't stop there! Throughout her professional career, Raquel has filled many roles, including being a Founder and CEO, CTO, Vice-Chair, first employee, and now Engineering Manager at Slack — Raquel epitomizes Intrapreneurship! She is often featured at conferences, covering topics such as web development, robotics, salary negotiation, and storytelling.

Ei-Nyung Choi, Staff Engineer - Front End

Ei-Nyung has been building user-centric technology for over 20 years, specializing in high-peformance/high-scale web products, mobile apps, and casual games. She's worked in a wide range of organizations—from nimble startups to large corporations—and has worn many hats—from Individual Contributor (IC) to Technical Co-Founder. She has shipped production code in 8 different coding languages to millions of users. Ask her about her thoughts on being a startup person at heart finding her footing in a large company, her love for mentoring, the welcome challenges of onboarding new engineers, and how great software engineers do so much more than write code! She is the mom of two amazing little kids who drive her to want to do some good in the world.

Joann Anderson, Director of Application Engineering

Joann Anderson is Director of Application Engineering at Slack where she oversees core product including Internationalization, AppEng Foundation, and Calls. Joann focuses on engineer career growth, internship program development, and feature release quality and velocity. She’s previously worked and led engineering teams at Adobe and Symantec where she streamlined engineering processes to accelerate release delivery. In her free time, she channels her inner child playing with her two kids and searches for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Audrei Drummond, Senior Application Engineer

Audrei is a senior backend engineer at Slack, working on the Enterprise Identity, Compliance and Security Team, where she helps to make sure Slack's largest customers can securely use the product. Prior to Slack, she worked at companies such as Microsoft and Redfin, where she has been in roles ranging from an automation engineer to a full stack (and mobile) engineer. Audrei has taken the core testing principles she's learned early on in her career, her keen eye for detail and curiosity into building scalable systems for customers and other internal developers. When she's not working on SSO, SCIM or some other identity, compliance or security acronym, she can be found at the local climbing gym, mentoring, or reading comics.
