Tech Cocktail Sessions - Whether you are a technology enthusiast, inventor, creator, entrepreneur, investor, developer, or designer, we are all linked by a passion for technology, innovation and starting up - and that's what unites these talks. "Spreading the Silicon Valley Gospel."
Based in San Francisco, Ali is an angel investor, startup advisor, and serial entrepreneur. He co-founded and sold two high-profile startups: iLike, acquired by MySpace in 2009, and LinkExchange, acquired by Microsoft for $265 million in 1998. Ali is also a co-founder of computer education non-profit Code.org. His portfolio as an investor / advisor has included such successes as Zappos, Ironport, and Facebook, as well as newer ventures such as DropBox, Viagogo, and OPOWER (see complete Partovi portfolio). As a visionary, he was among the first people to see the potential of the Facebook Platform (in 2007), and among the earliest to grasp the business opportunity of search (in 1997). His current passion is sustainable food and agriculture, based on his recent articles Food is the New Frontier in Green Tech and Hacking the Food System: Focus on the Supply Chain, and related angel investments in Farmigo and BrightFarms, and serves on the board of FoodCorps. Paul is an entrepreneur and investor based in San Francisco and Washington, DC. He founded/co-founded five companies over the past ~10 years and successfully exited three of them. He's an engineer/coder who actively tinkers with new ideas/prototypes each week. Singh is the founder of Dashboard.io and a Partner at 500 Startups — a “super angel” fund headquartered in Mountain View, CA and founded in July 2010. To date, 500 has invested in 400+ companies in nearly 20 countries. Paul also serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and DHS/USCIS. Rich Winley is the founder of No Chains (as in No Chain restaurants). No Chains helps people eat local with "No Chains" attached. He's also a native of Greenville, SC, an HUGE SEC football fan, and passionate about building communities. He currently lives in Houston, TX with his awesome fiance. "Evolution of Angels"
Ariel is an entrepreneur, mentor and investor. Ariel was the founder of IPRO, the first web analytics company, Topica, one of the first email communities, and TextMarks, a pioneering provider of SMS marketing services.
He was chairman of LinkExchange and StumbleUpon, and board member of Kana Software, Scan, LOLapps and Odeo. Ariel currently serves on the boards of Freedom Financial and Strava. His angel investments include AdMob, Flixster, Slideshare, VivaReal, BrightRoll, Optimizely, Causes, Viki, Rally, Instructables, Kongregate and NexTag.
Ariel mentors numerous foreign entrepreneurs through Endeavor and Best of Angel. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics with Computer Science from MIT and an MBA from Stanford University. Ariel is originally from Venezuela and lives in San Francisco with his wife and three children. He is addicted to kitesurfing - particularly kite racing and kiting on waves.
