Silver & Black Give Back is thrilled to host international service learning expert Cathy Berger Kaye on Wednesday, May 22nd at Trinity University. She will lead three different workshops designed for teachers, administrators, parents and nonprofits interested in participating in Silver & Black Give Back's Team Up Challenge.
This interactive workshop will inform you about the benefits of service-learning, how to implement a genuine and productive service-learning program with your students or children, and give you tips on how to apply for the 2013-2014 Team Up Challenge!
Over $150,000 is given to schools and nonprofits annually through the Team Up Challenge. Learn how your class, club or team could be the next Team Up Challenge Champion!
The event is free and will be hosted at Trinity University's Fiesta Room.
The Team Up Challenge is a service learning program designed to give students a chance to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the real world, bringing education alive in powerful ways. During the academic year, 20 semi-finalist student groups are selected to receive $2,500 to start their projects. Projects must fall into one of five categories: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health & Wellness or Uniformed Services.
Over the course of the year, Silver & Black Give Back supports these students' projects by providing volunteers, mascots and players to assist with their project, connecting groups to community partners, and leading students and captains in workshops designed to improve leadership and communication skills.
Students get to share their projects online as part of the Team Up Challenge online voting campaign in the spring. During the 2012-2013 year, over 56,000 votes were cast!
In April, student representatives present their projects to the review committee and five champions are selected to receive $20,000 each for their work improving our community.
