In April of this year, the DOL released its most meaningful update to regulations of retirement advice since 1975 when the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) was enacted.  When the new rule takes effect next April, all Financial Advisors will be required to act as fiduciaries and recommend what is in the best interest of clients when offering guidance on 401(k) plans, individual retirement accounts, and other qualified retirement monies.

The comedian, John Oliver, on his HBO show "Last Week Tonight," recently satirized these changes in a June episode when he joked that Googling "Teacup Pigs Eating Ice Cream" was much more interesting than sitting through a 401k meeting that "No one in their right mind wants to sit through."  However, he did urge the importance of saving for retirement and concluded with five important steps that all employees should take in light of this new rule - among them making sure your advisor is a fiduciary and minimizing fees incurred among your 401(k) investments.

Join UBS’s 401(k) advisors for lunch to gain insight on 3 key factors facing plan administrators today:

  • Who and what is a Fiduciary and what do you need to do as a plan sponsor to prepare your plan before next April?
  • An update on recent ERISA litigation and how you can protect your plan
  • Creating positive participant outcomes given recent trends in 401k plans
