Event description

Description

This three-day workshop will be presented at San Diego State University. K-12 school teachers are invited to learn how geographic knowledge, skills, and reasoning can be enhanced through inquiry-based instruction by using a web-based geographic information system (GIS). The first 16 registrants for this workshop are eligible to receive a $150 stipend, with a total of 24 spots available (final 8 registrants will not receive stipends). There are no prerequisites and participants are required to attend the full three days of the workshop in order to receive the $150 stipend.

As the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and California History-Social Science Frameworks are implemented, naturalistic inquiry, literacy and skills development, and capacity to take informed action are being emphasized. Geospatial technology engages students in developing the literacy and competency required for next generation college and career readiness.

Registration fee of $50 per person includes training materials, morning refreshments, and lunch. Payments must be received prior to attendance. No refunds issued after the event date.

This workshop is part of a research study at USC about teacher training and GIS, participants may be video and audio recorded. Consent for recording will be requested and confirmed at check-in.
