About this Event

The Center for Reaching and Teaching the Whole Child (CRTWC ) is excited to announce an online professional development program for Teachers, Teacher Coaches, and Teacher Educators:

Teaching with a Social, Emotional, and Cultural (SEC) Lens

Take a Deep Dive into the Anchor Competencies Framework for Integrating CRT and SEL to Address Academic Achievement and Educator/Learner Well-Being in the Context of Structural Racism

Join us for this professional development experience to support teachers, coaches, and teacher educators in learning how to:

  • Teach and coach with a social, emotional, and cultural lens
  • Meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students so they can succeed and thrive
  • Respond to the turmoil of racism and marginalization within society
  • Meet their own social and emotional needs so they can truly be present

Whether teaching online or in person, you will learn how to apply the Social, Emotional and Cultural (SEC) competencies:

  • Build trusting relationships
  • Foster self-reflection
  • Foster growth mindset
  • Cultivate perseverance
  • Create community
  • Promote collaborative learning
  • Respond constructively across differences

Integrate the SEC anchor competencies into your teaching/coaching practice by:

  • Exploring assumptions and beliefs
  • Viewing examples of teaching and coaching practice
  • Engaging in practice of SEC strategies
  • Reflecting on practice
  • Sharing strategies and insights in a professional learning community

Have access to the SEC Competencies Framework and Resource Guide.

This professional development is based on the work published in our book, Teaching with a Social, Emotional, and Cultural Lens: A Framework for Educators and Teacher Educators from Harvard Education Press.

“Thank you for creating a brave space for us to engage in honest conversations about issues of equity, race and social justice. This is key in order for us to genuinely reflect on how to incorporate and embrace this social, emotional, and cultural framework."
