Teaching Professionalism

Traditionally professionalism in medical education was taught primarily through role models. At that time, the profession was generally homogeneous. Today, our society is far more diverse and we can no longer assume shared values with our students. While role modeling continues to be a critically important tool, it is not enough. Professionalism must be taught explicitly.

Join with other faculty members to explore the best ways to teaching students professionalism.

Objectives

  • Articulate a clear definition of professionalism
  • Select methods and techniques for teaching professionalism
  • Design an effective plan for increasing student professional behavior
