Description

DESCRIPTION

Teaching House Presents is a series of professional development and networking events for English language educators throughout London and the South East.

Thursday 23rd November's event will include a brief welcome and two professional development sessions with a short break between the two for refreshments and networking.

18.45-19.00 - Welcome and networking

19.00-19.45 - Translation - Lizzy Adams

A contentious issue and largely neglected in ELT for most of the 20th century, translation is now working its way back into the mainstream. This session will include a range of practical activities to make the most of all the linguistic resources that learners bring with them into the classroom, even in a multi-lingual environment.

19.45 - 20.00 - Refreshments

20.00-21.00 - The joy of (short) texts - Scott Thornbuy

“To see a world in a grain of sand” wrote Blake – and all language in a short text. In this workshop I’ll try to show how even very short texts, like jokes, tea bag wrappers, and short poems, can be exploited for the huge variety of language features that they embed, not to mention their pure pleasure.
