Description

DESCRIPTION

Teaching House Presents is a series of professional development and networking events for English language educators throughout London and the South East.

Wednesday 21st February's event is co-sponsored by Cengage publishing and will include a brief welcome and two professional development sessions with a short break between the two for refreshments and networking.

18.45-19.00 - Welcome and networking

19.00-19.45 - Encouraging discussion and discovery with lower level students - Danny Norrington-Davies

Materials for lower level language students often limit what they are able to do. In this workshop therefore, we will look at how course-book materials can be exploited so that these students are helped to improvise, think critically, respond personally to the content of texts and take more extensive speaking turns. We will also look at how teachers can work with what emerges from these interactions.

19.45 - 20.00 - Refreshments

20.00-21.00 - Personalization in the classroom - John Hughes (Cengage Learning)

Personalization in the classroom

We take it for granted that personalization is a good thing in the classroom but how much do our students really want to say about their lives? And anyway, does personalization of new language really aid memory? In this workshop, we’ll explore the challenges and the desirability of personalization in our teaching. The session is thought-provoking and practical.
