Description

DESCRIPTION

Teaching House Presents is a series of professional development and networking events for English language educators throughout London and the South East.

Thursday 19th October's event will include a brief welcome and two professional development sessions with a short break between the two for refreshments and networking.

18.45-19.00 - Welcome

19.00-19.45 - Identity in the Classroom - Katy Thomas

Most EFL teachers will have experienced some challenging moments in the multicultural classroom when loaded issues of race, gender or sexual orientation suddenly surface. This talk will explore ways of adapting typical textbook materials to create a safer and more inclusive space in your classroom in which such tensions are less likely to arise.

19.45 - 20.00 - Refreshments

20.00-21.00 - Integrating the Speaking and Reading Components in the Academic Version of IELTS - Sam McCarter

As the title suggests, this presentation will look at ways to integrate the speaking and reading components in the academic version of IELTS. Techniques on how to blend the speaking and reading components and help make them more interesting and interactive will be explored. The talk will also focus on strategies to make the reading more enjoyable. There will be several workshop elements in the session.
