Description

DESCRIPTION

Teaching House Presents is a series of professional development and networking events for English language educators throughout London and the South East.

Wednesday 23rd August's event will include a brief welcome and two professional development sessions with a short break between the two for refreshments and networking.

18.45-19.00 - Welcome

19.00-19.45 - Processing Instruction - Harriet Lowe

Why don't our learners process all of the linguistic input we present to them? (Well if they did, we'd all be out of a job.) "Processing Instruction" attempts to bridge the gap between the theory and teaching of a second language, with particular focus on the processing of input and how instructors can increase the amount of input processed and retained.

19.45 - 20.00 - Refreshments

20.00-21.00 - Instant Activities for Exam Classes - Fiona Aish and Jo Tomlinson

Students and teachers can often see exam classes as dry and serious compared to the more engaging and active types of classes found on General English courses. However, this does not have to be the case. Including activities which are lighthearted, fun and competitive in exam classes can improve student motivation and go a long way to achieving lesson outcomes and maximising learning. This workshop will present some interactive activities to bring life to your exam classes, whilst still providing valuable exam skills training.

The workshop will start by reviewing some typical skills and language that appear in tests. We will then move on to thinking about activities which can practice these skills and language elements in engaging and interactive ways. The workshop will present a selection of activities and participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how they could use them in their own teaching context. There will also be time for participants to discuss and share their own activity ideas.
