Teaching History with Children’s Books - A book club series mirrored after a series offered by the New York City Department of Education Social Studies Department.
This session's topic is Civil Rights. (Session 3 of 3)
Graphic Novel Title: March: Book One by John Lewis
Please note: Returning participants are asked to bring their copies of Sit-In How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting Down by Andrea Davis Pinkey and Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans by Kadir Nelson from previous sessions to this session.
Each session in the series will address a different Social studies topic and include a discussion of a graphic novel. Participants will:
Receive the graphic novel to bring back to their classrooms
Strengthen content knowledge of the selected topic through scholarly readings along with reading and discussing the graphic novel
Work with primary and secondary sources
Plan and collaborate with colleagues
Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions in the series.
There is a maximum of 18 participants for each session.
Participants must register for each session in the series.
