Event description
Teaching Hard History: Reckoning With Our Legacy of Slavery

About this Event

In commemoration of Black History Month, the NYC Commission on Human Rights and the Department of Education (DOE), will host a teach-in facilitated by April Francis Taylor. The goal of this event is to have educators in a shared space to discuss the necessity of a learning environment that teaches about slavery and its legacy in the United States.

Attendees will be provided with best practices, and the tools, on how to teach lessons on the history of slavery and anti-Black racism. Attendees will participate in breakout sessions to exchange ideas, resources, and recommendations for teaching and learning hard history.

To request an assistive listening device, interpretation, or another accommodation, please email Orlando Torres at otorres@cchr.nyc.gov by February 19.
