Clinical Associate Professor of Early Childhood & Elementary Education

Bio: Dr. Laura E. Meyers, Clinical Associate Professor in Georgia State University's Department of Early Childhood & Elementary Education, is recognized for her work integrating the arts within her teaching to support undergraduate and graduate students in illuminating and critiquing issues of social justice and contemplating their roles in advocacy.

As an artist scholar, Meyers collaborates with local theatre and film communities to create stories that prompt conversations about inequities. Although she has worked on a variety of projects, her most meaningful include writing for and performing in live sketch shows that use the intersection of serious social issues (e.g., racism, gender equity, LGBTQIA+ rights) with comedy. These creative initiatives have led to performances at Dad's Garage and The Village Theatre as well as conferences in academic settings such as GSU's Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence (Atlanta) and the National Council for the Social Studies (Chicago).

Most recently, Dr. Meyers co-developed a new graduate program, Master of Arts in Creative & Innovative Education (MACIE), in which she regularly teaches and mentors graduate students in apprenticeships with community partners such as the Alliance Theatre, High Museum of Art, See Beautiful, and Georgia Public Broadcasting PBS Kids.
