Teaching 101: Fundamentals of Instruction is designed to influence career success in academics and enhance teaching effectiveness.  At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate a general overview of the dental education environment;
  • Summarize expectations of and for dental faculty; and
  • Demonstrate basic instructional strategies.

Register Once for ALL THREE SESSIONS

  • Enrollment covers all three sessions
  • Each session is unique and not a repeat of former sessions
  • Confirmation for one is confirmation for all three.

Target Audience:

The program focuses, primarily, on oral health professionals who are new to academia and/or those who are considering the transition to dental education but have (1) minimal to no experience or formal training in pedagogy or (2) a desire to enhance their teaching skills.

  1. Identifying teaching & learning preferences
  2. Planning instruction and evaluation
  3. Diversity and Inclusion
  4. Engaging students effectively
  5. Effective clinical teaching
  6. Observation of Laboratory Teaching
  7. Understanding the culture of higher education
  8. Micro-teaching exercise

The capstone activity provides an opportunity for participants to design a “micro-teaching” presentation.  Presentations will receive verbal and written feedback from course instructors and peers in addition to a reflective self-evaluation of the teaching experience.  The success of this project relies on the active cooperation and collaboration of all participants who, as a team, work together to support each other in enhancing their teaching effectiveness.

Instruction will be provided in three 3-hour sessions from 9 am until noon on the following dates:

  • Session 1 – September 12, 2014
