Description

Pair up your favorite slice with some space science! Experience a new Earth and Space Science activity, a live planetarium show and stargazing on the first Wednesday of each month.

Teachers Eating Pizza is an earth and space science workshop for K-12 teachers, informal educators, after-school program providers, pre-service teachers and the university community.




Note: December's workshop attendees will meet at the San Diego Air & Space Museum at 5 p.m. for a special tour of their exhibition space and then transiton to the Fleet Science Center for the 7 p.m. planetarium show.

The walk from the San Diego Air & Space Museum to the Fleet Science Center is approximately 15 minutes and goes through the heart of Balboa Park. Click here for locations and walking directions. Attendees can also park at the Air & Space and drive to the Fleet.




December 4, 2019:

  • Workshop theme: San Diego Air and Space Museum Tour

    Meet at the SD Air & Space Museum for a special tour of their space collection, including the iconic Apollo 9 Command Module. Walk over to the Fleet Science Center for the evening’s planetarium show and stargazing event.


  • Planetarium theme: Our Milky Way Galaxy

    Our Milky Way Galaxy contains solar systems, nebulae, star clusters, and a supermassive black hole. Learn how we discovered the structure of our Galaxy and view the beauty of the Milky Way.

What is the schedule for the evening?


    • 4:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.: Check in and enter the San Diego Air & Space Museum


    • 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Pizza and Introductions


    • 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Transition back to the Fleet Science Center.


    • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.: The Sky Tonight Planetarium Show


    • 8:00 p.m.: Optional Stars in the Park with the San Diego Astronomers Association

Enter through the main entrance of the San Diego Air & Space Museum.


What grade are the lessons designed for?
Earth science, space science and astronomy is for everyone! However, the workshop portion of the evening is most applicable to K-8 teachers. Questions about the workshop content? Please contact us!


What if I want to bring family or friends?
Family and friends are welcome to purchase tickets to The Sky Tonight's 7 p.m. show. You may join your party in the Theater lobby at the conclusion of the educator workshop at 6:30 p.m. Due to space limitations, we ask that only educators register for this educator workshop. All additional planetarium-bound attendees should register through the Fleet Science Center's website.
