Description

This workshop is free with a refundable deposit. Attendance at the event is required to receive deposit. Please contact the event organizer through Eventbrite if you have additional questions.

Teachers Eating Pizza is an educator workshop at the Fleet Science Center that occurs on the first Wednesday of each month.

Come for the pizza, converse with colleagues, learn curriculum-ready interdisciplinary content related to the month's topic and attend the 7 p.m. The Sky Tonight Astronomer-led planetarium show in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater.

Following the workshop, the San Diego Astronomy Association invites you to view the stars through telescopes on the Prado during their monthly program Stars in the Park.

The following topics are emphasized in the workshop and planetarium. The topic of the educator workshop may vary from the planetarium show to be more in line with Next Generation Science Standards.

May 2, 2018: Light and Cosmic Art

  • In the Workshop: Wave Properties and Galaxy Art
  • In the Plantarium: Colors of Space. Why are some nebulae red and others blue? Why is our Sun yellow? What can colors tell us about the universe? Join us to find out!

June 6, 2018: Spectrum Analysis and Exoplanets

  • In the Workshop: Classroom Spectroscopy: Using the light spectrum to learn more about exoplanet atmospheres.
  • In the Plantarium: Exoplanets. Did you know that we’ve discovered other solar systems? Some of these planets are in the habitable zones of their stars. Join us this month as we determine if there are other Earths out there.
