Event description

Description

The Fowler Museum at UCLA invites PreK-12 educators of all backgrounds to explore global arts through contemplative viewing strategies with master mindfulness educator, Mitra Manesh.

Restore and rejuvenate for the 2018 year by gaining broad applications to integrating mindfulness into your classroom! In this FREE 4-hour workshop, Mitra will provide both guided art viewing and art making that will set the stage for an experience of being aware (not on autopilot), in the moment (not in the past or future), and curious (non-judgmental).

This reflective workshop is designed to deepen the experience of art exploration by meditating and focusing on the suspension of judgement and creating an opportunity for art, artist, and self to be considered anew. No prior experience in the arts is required.

Eligibility
Open to PreK-12 educators. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.

Cost
The Fowler Museum is proud to offer this workshop FREE of charge.

LAUSD Salary Point Credit
After successfully attending and completing the assignments provided, participants will receive 4 professional development hours.

About the Fowler Museum at UCLA
The Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on artworks from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas. By presenting artworks from both the past and present, visitors are invited to explore how artworks intersect through time and place.

The Fowler Museum enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions, publications, public programs, and, of course, a robust schedule of K-12 and family programs. Each of these efforts is informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. Additionally, the Fowler provides visitors the opportunity to examine the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics, culture and social action.
