Event description

Description

A highly practical, relevant, interactive 2-day teacher training retreat for contemporary vocal coaches. Pedagogical sessions in the morning with masterclass-based, “hands on” sessions and Q&A in the afternoon. We will also poll the attendees for the issues of highest priority to their teaching practices to include as much of this as possible.
The proposed outline is as follows:
Day 1 - "Power & Source"
10:00-13.00: Warming up, Stretch & Release, Effort Monitoring, Active Alignment, Breathing & Support for CCM singers
(Lunch)
14.00-16.00: Primal Sound & interpretation
16:00-18:00: Interactive masterclass + Q&A
__________________________________________________________________
Day 2 - “Filter"
10.00-13.00: Resonance incl. Twang, Tongue & Jaw, Diction, Onsets/Offsets
(Lunch)
14.00-17.00: Diagnostic/Interactive masterclass. Teaching "how to teach"
17:00-18:00 Q&A
Venue: The retreat will be held in Kim's converted basement. It's large, light, lovely and is completely soundproofed & air-conditioned with a recording booth, home cinema (with 5.1 surround sound and an 108” screen), keyboard, mics and 2 Bose L1 compact speakers permanently set up in the room. It also has windows that look onto the back garden and a pool (which you’re welcome to use).
Flights: The closest airport is Spain’s 3rd largest airport, MALAGA. There are 6 airlines that have flights from London airports to Malaga (2.5 hr flight): EasyJet, Ryanair, Monarch, British Airways, Norwegian Air, Jet 2. If you’re able to fly back on Monday instead of Sunday night, you’re likely to find cheaper options. If you’re coming from outside London, there are still plenty of airlines that fly to Malaga.

Hotels: The best place to book a hotel is in SAN PEDRO de ALCANTARA. It’s a very typically Spanish suburb of Marbella that’s about 7 mins drive from Kim's house and has cheap, authentic tapas bars and very reasonably-priced restaurants.
An example of a mid-range hotel is: http://www.hoteldonacatalina.com (around £60/night). There are also cheaper B&B-type options (“hostal” in Spanish, £26-40). But if you want to really splash out though and stay in Spain’s equivalent of "St Tropez", you could look at staying in Puerto Banus. It’s also about 7 mins drive from Kim's house.
Transport:
(To and from the airport): Malaga airport is around 70 kms from Marbella so the cheapest, most convenient option is to book a shared taxi that costs €25 for one person (even less for more people booking together). They will take you straight from the airport to your hotel (a normal taxi costs at least €70 for the same trip): http://www.airportstaxitransfers.com. You can also book this going back to the airport. If you’re interested in car hire instead, the car hire at Malaga airport is in the terminal building and is very reasonably-priced. The airport is right near the motorway and so is my house (45 mins drive).
(To and from Kim's house): There is a bus from San Pedro to the bottom of Kim's street (“Los Bloques”) that costs €1.18 and takes about 10 mins (the L4). It’s then a 15 min easy, pleasant walk to Kim's house from where it drops you off. The same bus also goes to/from Puerto Banus. A taxi will cost around €10.
Fee: £250 "Early Bird" rate (until May 1), £300 full rate. Includes refreshments at breaks and a light lunch on the roof terrace.
Number of participants: minimum 10, maximum 15
*Note: PLEASE don't book flights or accommodation (unless there's a full refund cancellation policy) until we confirm that we have the minimum number of participants for the event to proceed (10). Everyone who pays will get a full refund if we don't attain the minimum number of participants by MAY 1.
