Why is tea the most consumed prepared beverage on earth?

  • Explore tea traditions in various countries.
  • Learn how tea is connected to the people in each country.
  • Learn why Japanese green tea is the most difficult tea to prepare.
  • Using the instructions on Tea Packet #1, each participant will simultaneously prepare an 8oz mug of Kukicha green tea.
  • As a group, we will discuss the tea’s flavor characteristics, and suggest possible food pairing possibilities.
  • Discuss the future of tea in the U.S. Is there a U.S. tea culture?

Each participant will receive in the mail:

  • Tea Packet #1: Enough kukicha to make two, 8oz cups of Kukicha.
  • Tea Packet #2: Enough kukicha to make two Mo-Tea-To mocktails or cocktails.
  • A Mo-Tea-To mocktail/cocktail recipe.
  • A stainless-steel infuser to make tea in a teapot or a big mug.
  • The Cultured Cup will demonstrate making a Mo-Tea-To, a mocktail or cocktail using the packet labeled Tea Packet #2 (kukicha).

You will need the following for the session:

  • A temperature-controlled water kettle, or a bring-to-a-boil kettle and a meat thermometer.
  • A measuring cup (8oz).
  • A mug (at least 8oz), or a small teapot.
  • Unless you have a large tea infuser, use the (provided) stainless-steel infuser. NOTE: Ensure the infuser fits within the large mug or small teapot that you use.
  • Tea Packet #1 to make a cup of Kukicha green tea.
  • A timer.
  • Sean and I will demonstrate making a Mo-Tea-To.

NOTE: If you have time before the session begins, pre-make the Mo-Tea-To recipe. As a group, we will discuss how this tea affects the flavor of a cocktail/mocktail or a food recipe.
