"Zen and Tea have the same taste." - Japanese aphorism

Sitting silently - observing the mind - maintaining serenity. Whether it's formal meditation or tea ceremony, the practice is the same: realizing our natural state of ease and joy. So come spend a weekend silently sharing spacious tranquility with Bhante Suddhāso and Casey Marie, who together will guide us to understanding and peace.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS:

Bhante Suddhāso: Bhante Suddhāso is a Buddhist monk living in New York City, ordained in both the Theravāda and Soto Zen traditions of Buddhism. He has studied under the guidance of some of the most important names in Western Buddhism, including Ajahn Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Vīradhammo, Bhante Gunaratana, Rev. Myo Denis Lahey, Rev. Ryushin Paul Haller, and Rev. Tenshin Reb Anderson. Bhante Suddhāso was initially trained in Soto Zen Buddhism at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. Subsequently, he was ordained at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery in California, where he was trained in the Thai Forest Tradition of Theravāda Buddhism. Since then he has lived at a variety of monasteries from different Buddhist traditions in both rural and urban environments. A dedicated teacher, Suddhāso has taught to people of all different ages and walks of life, as well as college students of universities like Harvard, New York University, Fordham University, and Sarah Lawrence College. The co-founder of Buddhist Insights, an organization designed to connect people with Buddhist monks and nuns, his work aims to convey Buddhist concepts and their practical applicability to everyday life. www.bhantesuddhaso.com

Casey Shields: Casey's journey began along the south shore of Long Island. Whether it was running the Long Beach boardwalk, boarding in the surf, or meditating and practicing yoga in the sand, a deep connection formed with the waves. The rhythmic teachings of the ocean allowed for the perfect backdrop to quiet reflection of Self. Through this harmonious kinship with the salt and sand, Casey has journeyed farther to unite mind, body, and spirit with our great mother. Through her introduction to Global Tea Hut she discovered that the marriage of water and leaf had a profound effect on her routine. The incorporation of tea to her meditation practice has truly centered her. Additionally, she pulls inspiration and influence from the writings and lessons of Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Saul David Rave, as well as Wude & The Global Tea Hut Family. It has been through the incorporation of tea into her daily meditation that Casey has found her truest self. The concordance of the leaf and the feminine divine is one of great importance and Casey strives to help all individuals find a connection with feminine intuition and to follow their true path.
