Presented by Coffee & Tea Festival, in partnership with SerendipiTea, join us for a guided pairing of tea with Cabot Cheese!

About this Event

In this virtual tutored tasting, participants will have the opportunity to take part in an online discussion pairing six SerendipiTea teas with four Cabot Creamery Cooperative cheeses. Tea sommelier and author, Cynthia Gold, will walk participants through the pairing discussing the style and qualities of each tea selected to create a unique tasting experience with the designated cheeses (Legacy Collection: Alpine Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Extra Sharp Cheddar, Pepper Jack).

The teas to be include in the tasting are:

  • Lung Ching (Dragonwell)
  • Kukicha - Hatsukura
  • Selimbong Estate, 2nd Flush Darjeeling
  • Da Hong Pao
  • Chirrepec Tea Cooperative, Guatemala Black
  • Vietnamese Black (Ancient Tree Tea)

Each ticket ($45) is designed to be enjoyed by up to four participants, and contains:

  • (6) tea samples - six different varieties; 1oz of each
  • (4) bricks of each cheese - ranging between 6-8oz each
  • Access to the 1hr virtual tutored tasting conducted via video conference
  • Direct shipping to the purchaser's home (no PO boxes)

About the Presenter: Cynthia Gold, Tea Sommelier & Author

Cynthia Gold discovered her passion for tea after enlightening excursions into the tea fields of Asia, where she uncovered the pure beauty of the tea industry. She is one of a handful to have first brought, “Tea Cuisine,” to the United States where she has been actively combining teas with food via pairings or within the same dish or cocktail for more than twenty years.

Cynthia’s work has received multiple achievements including the WCR’s Women Who Inspire, Golden Goblet award for excellence in the beverage industry, Sante Magazine’s award for ‘Culinary Innovation’ and numerous 'Best of' awards. Her work has been featured in Art Culinaire, Boston Magazine, Yankee Magazine, Fresh, Plate, Sante, Tea Magazine, Imbibe, Beverage Trends, World Tea News, Restaurants and Institutions, Vegetarian Times, Cooking Light, Chronicle, Fresh Cup, Wine Enthusiast and The Washington Post among others as well as numerous publications overseas. She instructs and is on the Specialty Tea Institute Advisory Board, and regularly enjoys teaching the concepts of Culinary Tea to students and professionals in the US and overseas.

Her book Culinary Tea, currently on its fourth printing, has been released in the United States, Europe and Asia to acclaim from chefs and tea professionals alike.

FAQs:

  • What is included in the ticket price? Each ticket is designed to be enjoyed by up to four people and includes the tea, the cheese, access to the online event via video conference, and direct shipping.
  • How will the tea and cheese get to me? The tea will be shipped to the mailing address provided by Starfish Junction. The cheese will be shipped to the mailing address provided by Cabot Creamery.
  • Where do you ship to? We can only ship to physical mailing addresses at this time in the United States. We cannot ship to any PO Box due to refrigeration. No international shipping.
  • Can you ship to a PO Box? No. Since the cheese must be refrigerated both shipments must be mailed to physical home addresses.
  • Do I need to be home to receive the cheese? We recommend that you are home at the time of delivery since the cheese needs to be refrigerated. However, the delivery will be left at your door should you not be home.
  • When will I receive my tea and cheese? We will close ticket sales on August 2, 2020 to ensure delivery to you on time. Your shipment of tea and cheese will come separately but both will be delivered between August 3-8.
  • How will you ensure the cider and cheese get to me in time? Average shipping times are approximately 2-3 days. We are cutting off ticket sales a week before the event to make sure each ticket purchaser receives their tea and cheese shipments before the online event. If we have delivery issues, we will contact you by the phone number provided.
  • What if I get the tea/cheese early? Please be sure to refrigerate the cheese upon delivery.
  • I received only the tea. Where is the cheese? (or vice versa) The tea and cheese will be mailed separately. Please look for both shipments to arrive the week of the tasting. The tea will be shipped by Starfish Junction and the cheese will be shipped from Cabot Creamery.
  • How are damaged packages handled? Starfish Junction nor its sponsors and partners are responsible for damaged packages. Both SerendipiTea and Cabot Creamery take pride in their packaging and ensuring customers receive the highest quality of products.
  • I can't make the online event. Can I still purchase a ticket for the tea and cheese? Yes. If you can no longer attend the online event or simply are not interested in doing so, you can still purchase a ticket to receive the tea and cheese shipped directly to the mailing address provided. Please note that all sales are final and there are no discounts, refunds or exchanges should you not join the online event portion. Note, the video conference will be recorded and a link will be sent to ticket purchasers for later viewing but it will not be available to the public.
  • Will the online event be recorded? Yes, we will be recording the video conference. After review of the recording, we will send a link out to all ticket purchasers so they can access it and view it at a later date should they be interested in doing so. However, the recording will not be made public.
  • Why can't I buy more than one ticket? Since each ticket is designed to provide up to four people access to participate, we have set a limit of one ticket to be purchased at a time. However, you can buy multiple orders should you wish to do so.
  • How do I join the online event? Prior to the online event taking place, you will receive a number of emails reminding you of the date and time. Within these emails will also be a link to the Online Event Page which has the video conferencing link to join.
  • Can I ask questions during the online event? Yes! We encourage you to ask questions but please do so using the chat feature. This will ensure we avoid people talking over each other and all questions can be answered. The chat feature is typically located in the upper right hand corner of Google Meet.
  • How will you ensure the online event is a safe environment? We ask that all participants be polite and courteous. Starfish Junction and its sponsors/partners reserve the right to remove any participant from the video conference that is disruptive or behaving inappropriately with no refund.
  • Do I need to download special software or an app to participate in the video conference? The online portion of the tasting will be conducted via the video conferencing platform, Google Meet. You should be able to click the link provided and access the video conference in any web browser from a desktop computer or laptop. However, you will need to give permission to the browser to use your camera and microphone. If you would like to access the video conference on a smart device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) you will need to download the Google Meet app to the device that you are using to access it. Note, in rare cases you may need to update your browser or computer. Be sure to test your accessibility a day or two before the online event.
  • Can I take part in the online event by phone only? Yes, a call-in phone number can be provided so you can attend via phone and participate with audio only. Please reach out to help@starfishjunction.com for dial-in details.
  • What happens if I lose internet connection during the online event? If you lose internet connection and leave the video conference, simply click the link again to re-join.
  • Can you help me with my technical difficulties accessing the video conference? Yes, please email help@starfishjunction.com. It is important for you to try accessing the video conference before the day of the online event so we can fully assist you as we have some limitations.
  • Do I need anything besides the tea, cheese and a computer to participate? The tea will be shipped to you to brew. However, you will want access to water, a kettle, loose leaf tea brewer, and tea cups to brew the tea during the event. Alternatively, items like a Gaiwan or cupping set can be used. The cheese will come pre-packaged but you should have a cutting board and knife/cheese slicer available to slice the cheese during the pairing. You may also want to have a tea towel or any towel on hand for drying. We also recommend having a power source connected to your computer (or device) that you will be participating in the video conference with.
