Description
TCRG Brown Bag Speaker Series:
Wednesday, Jan 8, 2014, Noon to 1:00 pm
Topic: Census ACS: A fabulous and formidable data source.
Do you have a data product that utilizes ACS data? Please bring copies and 30 seconds of remarks for a speedy round of ACS “show and tell.”
For many researchers and planners, the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) is the go-to data resource for understanding characteristics and trends, especially for small geographies or groups. Yet for all of its power and scope, the ACS can be a challenging friend. Andi Egbert of the MN State Demographic Center will talk about new offerings in the most recent ACS release, tips and tricky scenarios, and data access tools outside of American FactFinder.
Bonus! Joan Naymark of Minnesotans for the American Community Survey will give an update about the political and funding outlook for Census data, and discuss why it’s critical to support the ACS in our interactions with policymakers and the public.
Featured Speaker: Andi Egbert is senior research analyst with the Minnesota State Demographic Center; Joan Naymark is director of Minnesotans for the American Community Survey (MACS).
